Volunteers needed for Carnival!

Wells Carnival are looking for people to collect from the spectators with their buckets on Friday 15th November and assist with the count.

It now costs the Carnival Committee more than £20,000 to organise and the average collection over the past 10 Wells Carnivals is £11,500.

“So we need to significantly increase our income. The collection remains fairly static, but costs increase each year,” said Wells Carnival Treasurer Tony Frazier.

A magnificent carnival was enjoyed by all in 2023!

Meanwhile Nigel Clarke, their Assistant Chief Marshal, is appealing for volunteers to act as marshals on the carnival route.

“They would be given training and be required from 4.30pm until about 11pm. They will work in teams in given sections with a lead marshal who has radio contact with our control. The main job is to keep the public safe and back from the procession. More experienced marshals will handle any incidents.

“You will get free fish and chips from Tuckers before you start.

“I'm also after someone to man our command centre with radio comms experience and able to think on their feet if a situation arises. Perhaps a retired emergency services operative - ideally a retired police officer.”
